This website uses cookies and similar technologies to provide the service, and also to let us improve it by obtaining statistics on its use, among other purposes.
Browsing this website necessarily involves the use of cookies and similar technologies whenever they are needed for it to work. In addition, for certain purposes, cookies and local storage are subject to your prior consent. You can accept or reject cookies through the settings system provided, and you can also configure your browser to prevent their use.
This policy forms part of our privacy policy and covers the following:

  • What are cookies?
  • What are cookies used for?
  • What do we mean by technologies similar to cookies?
  • What are third-party cookies? Who receives the information?
  • How long do cookies or similar technologies stay active?
  • Using browsers in private browsing mode
  • How to prevent the use of cookies and how to delete them
  • Detailed information on the cookies used by this website

What are cookies?

“Cookies” are small temporary files created on the user’s device (computer, phone, tablet, etc.) when they visit a website, which allow that website to store or retrieve information while they browse, for example to save their preferences or to recognise them on later visits, as well as to obtain information about their browsing habits.
When a website creates a cookie on the user’s device, it stores the address/domain of the website that created the cookie, the lifetime of the cookie, which can range from a few minutes to several years, and the content of the cookie. Users can disable cookies at any time through this website’s settings system, configure their browsing program to prevent (block) the use of cookies by certain websites, and delete cookies stored previously.

What are cookies used for?

The most common uses or purposes are:

  • Essential technical cookies. They are used to manage the flow of navigation within the website or to keep the user logged in. If they are disabled, some sections of the website may not work properly.
  • Personalisation cookies. Needed to remember certain user preferences.
  • Analytical cookies. They help us and third parties to gather information on where users come from and how they browse the website, in order to carry out statistical analysis and improve the structure and the content.
  • Advertising cookies. Used to manage the adverts that appear on the website and to decide the content or the frequency of those adverts.
  • Behavioural advertising cookies. They help gather the user’s browsing habits in order to build a profile of their interests and show them adverts matched to it.
  • Social sharing cookies. They are needed to identify the user on their social networks and so allow them to share content.

What do we mean by technologies similar to cookies?

Similar technologies means any kind of data storage and retrieval mechanism used on the user’s device to obtain information. The most common ones include:

  • Browser local storage. Some websites use local stores called “sessionStorage” and “localStorage”, as well as the browser’s indexed database, to save information;
  • Local storage of browser plug-ins, such as Flash local storage (“Flash Local Shared Objects”) or Silverlight local storage (“Isolated Objects”).
  • The “web beacon” is a tracking technique that consists of inserting into a web page (or an email) an image hosted on an internet server, so that when the browser or mail program connects to that server to download and display the image, the connection is logged. This shows that the user has viewed the web page or the email. Sometimes this image is very small or transparent, so the user does not notice it is there.
  • “Fingerprinting” techniques, which combine information obtained from the browser or the browsing device to tell a user apart across their successive visits to different websites.

What are third-party cookies? Who receives the information?

The cookies on this website can be divided, according to who creates them, into two categories:

  • First-party cookies: they are created and managed from our own sites and web domains, and the information obtained is managed directly or indirectly by us for our own purposes.
  • Third-party cookies: these are cookies created and managed from other websites which, although not entirely under our control, provide functions and features we have decided to include on our website, such as interactive maps, videos and multimedia items, social media sharing buttons, adverts, etc. These cookies are under the control of the third party providing the relevant function.

The great majority of third-party functions involve access to or collection of information (and the use of cookies) by the third party providing the function, on its own criteria and for its own purposes, including the collection of browsing habits in order to show you personalised advertising. The next section lists the third-party functions and features used on this website.

How long do cookies or similar technologies stay active?

Depending on how long they persist or stay active, we can distinguish between:

  • Temporary session cookies; they stay stored on the browsing device until the user leaves the website; the browser deletes them when the browsing session ends.
  • Persistent cookies; they stay on the browsing device and the website reads them each time the user makes a new visit. These cookies are deleted automatically after a certain period, which may be short or very long.

This policy includes information on how long cookies last; for more information, see our privacy policy, as well as the information provided in the privacy policies of the third-party providers of web functions.

Using browsers in private browsing mode

If you want to use this website with a greater degree of privacy, limiting how long cookies are stored, we recommend using a web browser with a “private” browsing option. You can find information on this in the help pages of the most common browsers:
